Episode 20: Being in the Work takes Practice
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
Being in the work of personal development takes practice.
That moment it starts is a call for us to wake up everywhere in our life. It doesn’t just happen like that. And if it does, it’s usually short lived. It’s a process and a practice of peeling back the layers of ourselves. We begin to expose our blindspots - it can happen publicly or privately. But when you say yes to personal development, it will be revealed. The work doesn’t end there. We keep living and facing the world while also having a level of awareness that allows us to separate how we used to live from how we want to live. Patty Ivey shares her heartfelt wisdom in our conversation. Patty’s openness and relatability is a breath of fresh air and her love for personal development is felt through the sound waves of this conversation.
Patty Ivey is the founder of DownDog Yoga in Washington D.C. Above all things, Patty is honest and a woman of integrity. She is a generous listener, empath, leader and a stand for everyone that wants to personally develop. I’m grateful and honored to call her my friend. She has an incredible Leadership program beginning March 6th for yoga teachers. She shares about it in our conversation and you can find out more by following her on instagram at @sweetensweaty

Episode 19: Saying No Gives You Resources to Say Yes!
Thursday Feb 11, 2021
Thursday Feb 11, 2021
Have you heard the saying that when you say no to something it creates space to say yes to something else? Or taken in reverse, when you say yes to one thing, you are indeed saying no to something else. In any given day, we do this 1,000s of times. In this episode I explore examples of how saying no to some daily tasks can open up the time we need to get going with that....you know, workout we said we wanted to do yesterday. I'll also give you a really simple exercise to use to make resources available for all the things you want to say yes to. Show notes available here

Most of us, myself included, look at where we are and then get into action to fix what we don't like. Taking the time to look at where we want to go in all areas of our life is a vital part of the process. In this episode, I'll walk you through how to do just that so that the action you take is grounded in what you truly want to be creating, not just a band-aid or quick fix. Tune in to episode 15 or visit the notes to start with the journaling exercises on Being Where You Are first.

In today’s episode, I’m talking with Lieutenant Colonel Ed Arntson of the United States Army. His career in the army began 19 years ago and has included 7 deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and the U.S. Border all while being married to his wife of 17 years and raising two kids who are now 11 and 9. I wanted to have this conversation with Ed because our lives are so different and I wanted to know more about what it’s like to be in his shoes of service. What I got hit with during this conversation was not only the incredible path that he is on, my appreciation for his service to our country but how shared history connects us on a level beyond explanation and understanding. We don’t know anything about the day to day woes that we both have but curiosity opens the door to connection and compassion. I hope this conversation brings joy to your heart, can tap into the relatability that we all share even if we are in different jobs. And lastly, that you take a moment to pause and appreciate those in your life who have left an imprint on you being the person you are today.
